Google Removes Authorship from Search Results

Here at EBS Marketing, it’s unlikely that we’ll go through a week without receiving information about Google changing or updating one of their services. They’re constantly tweaking their algorithms and announcing new updates to any number of their endless features. But as Google continue to look to perfect their products, the world-known search engine has decided to part ways with authorship in their search results.

Goodbye Authorship

After years of pushing authorship as a ranking factor, in which a user could link content on the web to their public Google+ profile, thus showing their name and photo in the search results, Google have finally announced the end of authorship.

EBS Marketing Authorship GoogleTwo months ago, we saw Google moving away from authorship in the search results; saying goodbye to photos and Google+ information – leaving a link and a the authors name. But now, in September, Google have announced that they are moving away from authorship for good.

John Mueller’s Statement

Google’s John Mueller discussed the changes saying: “We’ve gotten lots of useful feedback from all kinds of webmasters and users, and we’ve tweaked, updated, and honed recognition and displaying of authorship information. Unfortunately, we’ve also observed that this information isn’t as useful to our users as we’d hoped, and can even distract from those results. With this in mind, we’ve made the difficult decision to stop showing authorship in search results.”

Time to Focus on Schema.org

Now with Authorship no longer present in the search results, Google are encouraging webmasters to concentrate on structured markup such as Schema.org. This markup helps all search engines better understand content and webpages on the web – so if you’re still unfamiliar with rich snippets and Schema then now’s the time to check it out.

Promoted Video Now Available On Twitter

Here at EBS Marketing, we’re always on the lookout for the latest developments in the marketing and digital world. It’s important that as SEOs and digital marketeers that we make sure we are making the most of the resources and tools available to us. So whenever a major frontrunner in the digital landscape announces an update, we’re always keen to get on board and try things out.

Twitter Update

Twitter EBS MarketingJust the other day social media giant, Twitter, announced a beta test of their new video ad feature, which allows businesses and individuals to streamline videos to their audience.

Promoted Videos

Promoted videos use a playback system native to Twitter rather than referring watchers to other video services such as YouTube or Vimeo – meaning better engagement and more views. Alongside this users of Promoted Videos will also be able to have complete control over analytics – measuring the reach and effectiveness of their content.

Cost Per View

Video set up has also been made to be easier, offering advertisers the ability to run ads with a new Cost Per View (CPV) system, meaning publishers only get charged when a user starts playing a video.

Announcement

In their announcement earlier this week David Regan also went on to say:

“In addition to the improvements we’ve made to the advertiser experience, we’re excited to share that we’ve expanded the tests of our native video solution with select content publishers and verified users. The overall goal is to bring more video into our users’ timelines to create a richer and more engaging Twitter.

“Video is an incredible storytelling medium and we’re thrilled to be giving brands, publishers and a subset of verified users the ability to share organic and Promoted Video on Twitter. If you’re a partner and want to start using native video, please contact your account representative for more information.”

EBS Marketing Talk Portable Chargers

In the modern age, you’d be hard pressed to find somewhere which doesn’t have a point in which you can charge your phone, power your laptop or even plug in a pair of hair straighteners.

But, every once in a while, when we’re far away from home, out of charge and with no way to get to a plug, we’re left in a vulnerable state; cut off from everything.

And although many of us in the marketing game often need to unplug for a while, there are points in time when we cannot afford to go off the grid. So with this in mind, recently at EBS Marketing we’ve been looking into ways to prevent the loss of our favourite electronical devices by exploring the possibilities of portable electronic chargers.

Portable Electronic Chargers

Portable electronic chargers have been around for some time now, but many of us still don’t know much about them. Normally a battery box of some sort; portable chargers come in a number of shapes and sizes offering varying charge time and features. Most commonly, portable chargers provide USB points for plugging in phones, tablets and more.

The most popular form of portable charger seen is the iPhone backup; a case or plug-in which normally provides the user with an extra full charge of battery. But, there are actually a wide array of portable chargers which can help to keep your power on.

ChargeAll EBS MarketingCurrent Equipment

Sure, there are devices like the GearPower Ultra Capacity charger which allow two devices at a time, and the handy EasyAcc Power Bank which is more than capable of completely charging two iPhones. Both amazing purchases, which will help you out in a time of need. But whilst scouring the net, we found a something which trumps even the most highly praised charger.

ChargeAll

What started out as an online funding campaign via the website Indiegogo, has turned into one of the success stories of 2014.  A company called ChargeAll have successfully funded what seems to be the next step in portable charging.

Their devices, which are discussed more accurately through their original start-up video, are set to replace the way we charge our electronic devices. Not only do their new portable Power Outlet’s provide power via USB, but they actually include a plug socket so you can charge laptops, speakers, hair dryers, lights, fans and much more. A fully charged unit can keep your phone charged for a whole week.

The start-up company has already received over 300% of their funding for the project and is set to take the whole by storm. And here at EBS Marketing, we can’t wait to get our hands on one.

Google Introduce New Page Analytics Chrome Extension

With the news that webmasters can now access website data via the newly released Google Analytics iPhone app, it seems the good news doesn’t stop there, as Google have also recently released a Page Analytics Chrome browser extension.

Extensions for browsers such as Chrome and Firefox have been round for a good while now – but it still seems that many online users aren’t making the most of their inbuilt features. But, with the release of Google’s new Page Analytics Chrome extension and others like it, we may see that change.

Released last month, the new Page Analytics tool – brought to you by Google – is an amazing add-on for marketeers and internet users alike. Easily installable on your Chrome browser, Page Analytics allows you to see how customers interact with your web pages.

Analytics EBS Marketing

By logging in with your Google Analytics account, you can view data about your website on page with a series of helpful and accessible on-page queues.

Whilst the Google Analytics website is an unbeatable source of data and insights, this extension brings detailed information about the pages on your site on-page, and away from the graphs and numbers of the normal hub.

From the on-page analyser, you can find information about page views, conversion and bounce rates, exit percentages, and – most importantly – visualisations of user activity on site and where on the page they clicked.

Installable via the Chrome extension online store, Page Analytics by Google is a quick and useful add-on for webmasters who want to have website data on demand, when on page.
